I am getting this award for being involved in the city of Gardner, Kansas. I remember in 2008 I was 12 and I wanted to be a cheerleader, a basketball player, and I also wanted to be a volleyball player. Now I am standing up here getting this award for being involved with everything. I should be Superwoman! I’ve won a few small awards, but never anything big like this. I remember when was a little girl I felt so out of place. We would be in class and I would be called on and I would hate it. I felt that if I didn’t fit it with everyone else and if I wasn’t cool nobody would like me. So while everyone was out on the playground I was sitting on the side.
I knew that if I kept keeping myself away from the crowd I would never be able to go anywhere in life. So I said to myself one day, “I can’t fit in I have to stand out”. I joined our school choir and some other groups. A lot of people started to notice me when I became involved. It felt really good being involved in school. While everyone didn’t want to speak up, I was the one always answering the questions. Now I am standing up talking and being audible so all of you can here me. My mom helped me become even more involved. After I finished high school I went to college to become a veterinarian, because I love animals. After I was done with college I wanted to stay in Gardner. I only worked from 9:00am-3:00pm so I needed something to do after work.
I went up to City Hall to see what I could do in the city. There were a lot of things to do. I decided to join the Nature Club to help save the animals. I joined the Parents’ Association since I had a 3rd grader, I also joined the Gardner Society to help set up things in Gardner. Once I became involved it felt great.
Without everyone I wouldn’t be up here with this award in my hand. Ever since I found out I was getting this award I was so happy. I’ve even had a few people tell me I should run for President. Now I am going to run for President. It will be very hard, but I think it will be really cool. But you will have to find out.
